Hoenn: the Sapphire Story Guide

The Pokémon Sapphire storyline, rebuilt on ConquestRO across 24 new maps — the routes, cities and caves of Hoenn, Team Aqua's campaign to wake Kyogre, and the trainers who stand in your way. Everything here was verified against the original game's encounter tables and story order.

⚠️ Patch first. The maps, minimaps, quest titles and the catch animation all arrive through ConquestRO Patcher.exe (patch 1060, ~13 MB). A client that has not patched cannot draw Hoenn at all.

Getting there

Capt. Briney stands in south-east Prontera. He sails you to the Route 104 beach, and will bring you home again any time — the trip is free both ways. On the beach, Birch's Aide starts the story and hands you 10 Pokéballs.

Mr. Briney's boat on the same beach also runs two side trips: Route 105 (open sea, Tentacool waters) and the Island Cave isle — you will want both eventually.

The story, in order

Your progress lives in the quest window (Alt+U) as twelve "Sapphire:" steps.

# Step Where What happens
1 Sail to Hoenn Prontera → Route 104 Briney's ferry; the Aide's welcome and 10 Pokéballs
2 Petalburg Woods north of the beach A Team Aqua grunt corners a Devon researcher — beat his Carvanha pair
3 The road to Mauville Routes 102 → 117 Travel east and report to Wattson
4 Dynamo spirit Mauville City Street battle: Voltorb → Magnemite → Magneton, Wattson's real Sapphire team
5 The Weather Institute Route 119 Three waves of Team Aqua, ending with admin Shelly and her Carvanha + Sharpedo
6 Feather spirit Fortree City Winona: Swellow → Skarmory → Altaria (her Pelipper "rests today" — the species isn't on this server yet)
7 The road east Routes 120 → 121 The long road toward Mt. Pyre
8 Mt. Pyre summit Archie steals the Red Orb; drive off his Sharpedo guard and the elder gives you the Blue Orb
9 Team Aqua's ship Lilycove dock Fight bow to stern: two grunt waves, then Matt. The sea chest by the stern cabin holds a Master Ball — the same place Sapphire hid one
10 The Seafloor Cavern dive from the stern Archie uses the Red Orb. Kyogre wakes. Beat it and the server hears about it

Side stories: the Pretty Petal flower shop on Route 104 North pays for thinning out 10 wild Pokémon, and the Island Cave off Route 105 holds the trial of ice — an echo of Regice, one victory per trainer.

The routes and what lives on them

Spawns follow the Sapphire encounter tables — including the Sapphire-only species Ruby never had.

Map Notable wild Pokémon
Route 102 Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Wurmple, Lotad (the Sapphire exclusive), Surskit, Ralts, Marill
Route 104 (S & N) Poochyena, Wingull, Zigzagoon, Wurmple, Taillow, Marill, Magikarp on the surf
Petalburg Woods Wurmple nest — Silcoon, Cascoon, Beautifly, Dustox — plus Shroomish, a sleeping Slakoth, Poochyena and Taillow
Route 105 Open sea — Wingull and Pelipper, Tentacool, Wailmer, rare Sharpedo
Island Cave Snorunt, Spheal, rare Glalie
Route 117 Roselia meadow, the real Volbeat & Illumise pair, Surskit, Poochyena, Oddish, Marill
Route 118 Electrike & Manectric, Kecleon, Wingull, Carvanha, Sharpedo
Route 119 Tropius in the canopy, Kecleon, Oddish, Linoone — and a single Feebas in the river
Route 120 Absol, Mightyena, Kecleon, Marill, Linoone, Oddish, Barboach in the mud

Route 122 Sea run to Mt. Pyre — Tentacool, Carvanha, Wailmer, Sharpedo, Wingull
Mt. Pyre The graveyard — Shuppet, Duskull, Dusclops, Banette, a summit Chimecho, plus Meditite, Medicham, Vulpix, Absol and Sableye
Seafloor Cavern Zubat, Golbat, Tentacool, Wailmer (story area — no catching)

Every wild Pokémon on the routes is catchable with your usual Pokéballs and pays Poke Star Dust and shards through the same catch system as the rest of the world.

🆕 Every Sapphire native is here now. The arc originally shipped with stand-ins because a few dozen Hoenn species — Poochyena, Wingull, Shroomish, Slakoth, Shuppet, Duskull, Kecleon, Feebas, Castform and the rest — did not exist on this server. All 67 were added on 18 August 2026 and every route was rebuilt onto its real encounter table. 20 of them spawn nowhere else on the server, so Hoenn is the only place to catch them.

The rules of the story fights

  • Story bosses cannot be caught. Kyogre, Regice and every Team Aqua Pokémon in a story fight are battle-only. The wild legendary roamers you already hunt are a separate system and are untouched.
  • One challenger at a time. Each boss takes a single challenger (your party can help hit); if a fight stalls, it resets itself after a few minutes.
  • The institute, ship, cavern and cave block Fly Wing/teleport while you are inside — walk out or use the exits, they always work.
  • Kyogre is fought at five times its usual bulk, and yes — it hits back.

Pokémon Centers

Mauville, Fortree and Lilycove each have a Pokémon Center: the Nurse heals you (and can set your save point there), the Kafra opens storage. The door is on the main street of each city.

The catch animation

From this update, every successful catch anywhere in the world bursts a Pokéball animation over the target with the capture jingle; a failed throw plays the ball-break sound. The gym battles' Pokéball sound effect also plays for the first time — the file had never shipped.
